The barristers continue their questioning. The surgeon who carried out Mrs Miller’s operation claims that her problem was a wholly psychological one, and that – because she has the chromosomal makeup of a male – she is biologically a man. In the witness box, the accused claims that her ex-husband knew that she was born male before they married and they he himself was in fact a sometime transvestite and homosexual.
The Change Part Three
Granada
Season 7 Episode 33
Episode aired 17 March 1978
As the trial draws to a close, Mrs Freeman calls MR LEWIS, Mrs Miller’s father to the stand. He is supportive of his daughter, though obviously conflicted. Later, Mrs Freeman calls an eminent endocrinologist to testify. He states unequivocally that Mrs Miller is a woman and should be treated as such in all matters. The prosecuting barrister mocks the claim, which he describes as a theory which cannot be taken seriously. The jury deliberates and come to a verdict.
